Où est mon Dieu?

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi ( Lit. The Sunday Without God ) has me hooked. I understand that Christians will find the title in itself and the content uncomfortable but this anime is nothing that it looks like on the outside ( I thank my awesome best friend for enjoying this with me - she's Christian and I'm glad she doesn't take it too hard ).

Also known in short as Kaminai, the story explores the tale of a world that God has abandoned. Ai is a Gravekeeper, one of the rare beings who have the power to bury the Undead. Since God abandoned the world, people have lost the ability to die - thus becoming Undead, moving around even when their hearts have stopped beating due to natural courses or other causes. They eventually lose all rationality and go mad.

I couldn't have been more glad to be learning French because the written language in Kaminai is French ( and surprisingly, pretty accurate French too ).

Ai lives in a small village, taken in by a young couple after her mother's death. She took on the role of Gravekeeper after her mother's death. She's happy with her conditions yet she sometimes feels like the couple is hiding something from her. On a certain day, Ai has finished digging graves for everyone in the village and is heading back when she bumps into a particular individual. It's not an understatement to say that she is shocked when the barrel of a gun is cocked against her forehead.
A moment later, they're conversing and Ai is overjoyed to hear the man's name - Humpnie Humbert. Her mother told her before death that a man named Humpnie Humbert is her father. Humpnie ( seriously, even he said it, who has a name like that? ) denies this and claims that it's simply a name he borrowed from a story.

Later on, he asks for her help and she is horrified to find the corpses of the villagers scattered around the village. Furious, she questions Humphnie, only to be approached by one of the villager, who, to her her horror, has a part of his head blown off. The villager protects her as Humphnie aims and shoots him. As Ai rushes towards him out of anger, he kicks her down and she is knocked out. When she comes to, she follows him out of town, only to have him question her status as a gravekeeper.

"Gravekeepers don't have parents."

Another character appears, and according to Humphnie, "Now that's a real gravekeeper".

One thing I'm loving about KamiNai is the colour theme. It gives this kind of vintage, and mysterious feeling at the same time, not to forget the great art. I expect a lot.

i apologise for the horrible format of the screenshots, i'm just too tired xD
